An example of a wind tunnel study undertaken by WINDTECH is the Q1 Tower, Surfers Paradise, currently the world's tallest residential tower building. The building's dynamic response to wind loads was measured. This permitted an accurate estimate of the dynamic base moments, shear force distribution for the design of the structure as well as assessing the occupant comfort with respect to the building's acceleration.
Another study was carried out to accurately predict the cladding pressures on the building's façade using a risk analysis approach to the treatment of the effect of the internal pressures on the net façade pressures. The wind tunnel estimates were significantly less than the code's estimate, particularly along the vertical edges and is largely attributable to the aerodynamic form of this tower building and the rigorous methodology adopted.
A wind tunnel study was also conducted to determine the effects of the proposed development on the environmental wind conditions in surrounding areas including the private recreational areas throughout this large site. |
